MENTOR PROGRAM ASSISTANT (Full-time)

Location: New York, New York

THE POSITION:
Girls Quest is looking for a full-time Mentor Program Assistant to provide support to the Director of the Mentor Program in managing various aspects of this community-based mentoring program. The Mentor Program Assistant needs to be available on some evenings and weekends.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in client outreach and retention via responding to inquires and sending application materials to prospective clients in a timely manner.
  • Co-facilitate and coordinate mentor trainings and assist in updating training curriculum to reflect common issues and trends in mentoring and adolescent development.
  • Coordinate screening processes for volunteer mentors via conducting face-to-face interviews, criminal background screening through a third party and reference checks.
  • Responsible to complete mentor and mentee assessments prior to creating prospective match relationships.
  • Coordinate and conduct on-site individual parent and child orientations and interviews and contact any third party if necessary to help determine their eligibility for the mentor program.
  • Supervise and document life of match relationships.
  • Assist in maintaining adequate Mentor Program records and databases.
  • Conduct and coordinate various Mentor Program meetings such as, match meetings, goal review meetings, virtual mentor support network meetings and match group events.
  • Assist in disseminating additional match outing opportunities throughout each month as well as family and mentee opportunities as they are presented.
  • Represent Girls Quest to the community and assist in outreach to community organizations; articulate mission and goals to the public.
  • Work collaboratively with other Girls Quest departments.
  • All other tasks/duties as needed and directed by the Director of Mentor Program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required with major in Social Work, Sociology or Psychology preferred, and with at least 2-5 years prior experience working with youth and/or families.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bilingual (Spanish)/multi-lingual a plus.
  • Excellent presentation skills required. Candidate must be organized, efficient, outgoing, energetic, and a self-starter.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectively.
  • Advanced computers skills and knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook, familiarity with the Internet and knowledge of or willingness to learn basic HTML programming.
  • Candidates must be ready and excited to work in a fast-paced environment that values teamwork and collaboration, innovation, initiative, planning skills, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently but also as an integral member of a small team.
